Join us for an ice cream social at Englewood Recreation to kick of the 2017 Englewood Village creative placemaking season.
At 6pm we will announce this year’s Englewood Village Creative Grant projects and events. Lexington-based artists Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova will also be in attendance to discuss their upcoming Englewood Project, the culmination of a global artwork including participants from 5 continents with tattoos in 12 different languages.
The Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art (iMOCA) and Englewood Community Development Corporation (ECDC), and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) are partnering to support creative placemaking projects within the Englewood Village Great Places 2020 area–the ¼ mile radius around E. Washington & Oxford. We define ‘creative placemaking’ as people coming together to make positive physical, economic, and social impacts in their neighborhood through art, culture, and creativity.
Location and Parking:
The Englewood rooftop hockey rink at 23 N Rural Street. If there is rain, the indoor gym will be utilized instead. Parking is available in the rear of the building with overflow in the lot to the north. Follow the signs to the stairs and elevator for the rink.
About Great Places 2020:
Great Places 2020 is a collective impact effort to transform strategic Indianapolis neighborhoods into walkable town centers of culture, commerce, and community in conjunction with Indianapolis’s bicentennial in 2020. Neighborhoods have been identified as these target areas for investments in livability, opportunity, vitality, and education to build on existing neighborhood momentum with a vision for vibrant, mixed-use neighborhoods welcoming residents and visitors alike.
This event is free and open to all ages.
This mural was created by the Indy artist collaborative, The Droops, as part of the 2016 Englewood Village creative placemaking program.
